Mardigras in Hamilton

Caribbean Princess

Check out the page, “Caribbean & Central American Cultures & Costume Design” . I’ve included some highlights from the 2011 Hamilton Mardigras Carnival (the parade is the best part of the entire occasion in my opinion). For those who don’t know, the HMC throws an authentic Caribbean festival in Hamilton every August. If you like France’s, Rio’s, New Orleans’ and Toronto’s versions of celebrating Mardi Gras, then you have got to see Hamilton’s (many of the participants actually help put on Toronto’s Caribana). It’s smaller in scale but no slouch, and some of the best street photos I ever take are during the parade. More colour is added to the city, and even more out-of-towners drop in. It doesn’t matter what you are, what you look like, who you are or where you’re from, everyone gets to literally dance and sing in the streets.

Added, are some of my costume sketches and drawings. See how cultures can inspire my creativity.
